pizza and parking tickets

Dear Otto’s Mashed potato and bacon pizza, you are my first Salt crush. I know you are not a “character,” but your soulful and satisfying bites make you hard to resist. You’re priceless, even though you came into my life with a free coupon.

On the other hand, as I sat typing this blog entry, out my third floor window I noticed a black VW Jetta getting a parking ticket. The owner of the car came around the block shouting, “Please don’t ticket me, I just parked there!”  The man issuing the parking ticket pretended not to hear and slipped the ticket under her windshield wiper. Last nights, 11-7 a.m. parking ban on my street  left me clueless. I woke up this morning with a ticket on my car, though I was sure I had moved my car to a safe location. I’ll soon understand the parking system in this town, maybe even by week 15.

Really though, what has been the most amazing thing to happen to me in the last 24 hours has been the sense of urgency to get started on my stories. I spent so much time researching Maine from a distance it’s great to be actually here. Hopefully all my emails and calls will be returned with a bounty of story ideas…
