The facts:

I was robbed.
(i say without regret),
feel a hint of sadness somewhere inside,
i can not help but let some peace abide,
for such things as this, they do occur,
and life goes on, just as it were,
and the things left behind they do reveal,
what things are true, what things are real,

and though it sounds so maudlin to say,
im glad to have such friends on such a day.

thank you kindly, mr. and ms. salties!

peace to you all.

I once heard a wise man say with a smile, “In an infinite universe…everything happens.”

I’ve just finished my first week “here”. Devon called it my “weekiversary”. When my nascent love for the city is deconstructed into bite-size portions, I see visions. A man named Alfredo with his pipe and stone-top, ocean-side stories. A woman named Yunokee and her nostalgia for bare-foot summers in south Korea. Young, beautiful people gripping a drink with one hand and holding the other out to me, open, welcoming.

I also hear. The sound of the cold crush of waves on the sea. The echoing caw of a flock of gulls. The melodic music of an old man’s fiddle. The cadence of a new friends laugh.

When asked to describe one moment from the past 24 hours that I might dare to call “most”, I think back on this week and search for something synthesizing…

…along the salty waterside of an ocean that serves as a constant reminder that i am far from what i once called “home”, I sat on a stump and watched the sun set. I’ve seen the same sun set over the corn fields of Illinois. The same sun set over a mountain in Sudan. The same sun set over the skyline of Chicago. These were home, and now too, this. I listened to the stories of a new friend, I shared some of my own. The dusk changed the color of the ocean in front of us, shadows slowly covering the blues and pinks.
